A Professional Organiser with ADHD? How does that work?

You may be here because you suspect or have just been diagnosed with ADHD.  I too was diagnosed late in life so trust me when I say you can become organised!

I understand the real life challenges that come with ADHD and how to combat them so that you are not losing things, buying multiples or feeling overwhelmed.

First-hand Experience of Overwhelm

While it may sound amusing that someone with ADHD is a Professional Organiser (saying that was my job at the assessment sounded comical) it is a result of spending years honing my own systems that made me into an organiser.  I wasn’t always organised, I was actually very messy, overwhelmed and buying far too much.  Getting into decluttering was the first step to reclaiming my mental and physical space and starting to understand the systems that would help me.

I honed systems for my own house before helping friends and then starting the business in 2018.  Learning to become organised has really helped me to have less visual and mental noise day to day and bringing simple systems to homes is helping people do the same.

Perfecting the Systems

If you have tried to get organised using traditional methods or by buying storage, you will know that this does not cut it.  These systems are often complex, time consuming and require remembering to do things over and over again.  Often storage ‘solutions’ simply hide items so that in our minds they no longer exist, meaning that when you do finally see it you feel like you have failed yet again to get organised.

You need a different approach.

I use bespoke systems for people and their specific needs meaning that items will be for the most part visible, simple and clear.  For ADHD people this means removing barriers, using visual cues, simplicity and systems that help with routine.  The most important thing is that things have a home and that they are in the right place for you to use them.  The flow of items within your home needs to make sense to you.  Items having a home is essential to help with ADHD. I have stress tested everything over the years and I am still constantly trying to improve my techniques for myself and my clients.  I am very passionate about systems, improving them and incorporating new ideas.

The right solutions for you

Getting organised alone often leads to overwhelm or paralysis, getting everything out in a moment of focus and then getting overwhelmed and not knowing where to start.  This ends up with a big pile of items in a corner or shoving it all back feeling defeated.   I offer not only body doubling but help with decisions when you get stuck, motivation to carry on, enthusiasm to keep you upbeat, getting items out of your home and expertise from 7 years doing this job.   We may even have fun!

Things I can help you with:

  • If paperwork has been your nemesis for years, I can sort it out and get a simple system for going forward that you will find easy to follow.

  • If your wardrobe is full of items you do not wear or do not fit, we can work through what needs to go and what to do with the items.  No more huge piles ‘for vinted’ hanging around forever, a clear plan and check ins.

  • If your kitchen cupboards make no sense and you are constantly searching for things I can help it flow so that cooking, making drinks and finding things is much easier and intuitive.

  • If you often lose or forget to take things with you, I can put systems in place so that they become more visible and you slowly get into routines so that keys, phones, wallets, etc are easy to remember.

  • If one room has become a dumping ground full of bags/boxes of random items, I can reclaim that room and work out what needs to be done with the items.

  • I can detect patterns where you are getting stuck and suggest solutions

  • If things tend to gather over and over, we can put systems in place to make sure these have a home and get put away.

I am here to tell you that you are not lazy and it's not that you do not understand the advice or fail to do it right.  It's that our brains are different and we need a different approach to organisation.

Organising for ADHD isn’t about forcing yourself to follow rigid systems that work for neurotypical brains. It’s about understanding how your brain functions, what your lifestyle is and designing spaces, habits, and routines that feel intuitive, forgiving and empowering.

I can help build systems that stick, work with your real life, don’t take up too much mental energy and will eventually become second nature.
