Orjenise100 Challenge
There are many ways to declutter a home and many schools of thought. I first did mine the Marie Kondo method which concentrates on doing things by category., others work by room, by sections or by number.
Doing this for a living I find that there is not a method that suits everyone. For some people pulling out all of their wardrobe at once can be completely overwhelming and counterproductive. I want my Clients to enjoy the process as much as possible and if they become stressed and ashamed that rarely happens. I also want Clients to get simple systems that work for their lives and are achievable. For me the Kondo method became too time consuming and stressful to keep going on a day to day basis.
A great way to get started with your decluttering journey can be to aim for a set number of items. The more extreme declutterers aim for 1000’s over a long period of time but I wanted to give people a smaller, achievable target over the course of a month. So I started Orjenise100 in January and took part in it myself. I was quite surprised at how much was still in my home as I operate mostly a one in one out rule and have regular clearouts. We did also start to sort our loft out which did help (we have lived here for 17 years and there is a lot in there). 100 may seem like a lot but once you go through kitchens, toiletries, wardrobes and miscellaneous items you should be well on your way.
My haul is on instagram over a few posts and consisted of for the most part: DVD’s, board games, books, towels, assessories, mugs, clothes, toiletries (that I used up), pens (that I used up), work out gear and many packs of playing cards!
I was really pleased at how many people got in touch to say that they had joined in, a special shout out Jordan who realising it was 31st January did 100 items in two hours! Check out his amazing stop motion story below and more on @everyday_stopmotion on Instagram.
I think that this can be a fun, achievable way to start to declutter and you will see the benefits. My number one tip is to get the bag to the charity shop ASAP before you start going through it. Let me know if you decide to take part and the results.
