How to Declutter your home - Easy starts
I love helping people to declutter their homes whether that be in person or with advice. I want to give you great ideas of where to start with decluttering. I know a lot of people can end up stuck because they don’t know where to start. Remember that decluttering alone takes time and that it sometimes gets worse before it gets better!
Also check out my Orjenise 100 idea (see the last blog) as an alternative to this or as a way to get going. Here are my 5 easy places to start on your decluttering journey:
1. Linens - Towels/Bedding/Teatowels/Tablecloths. I am always surprised by how these can build up over the years. Have a clear out of the ones you won’t use again. Most animal charities and vets love old towels but give them a ring first. Charity shops will take fabric although if its not sellable try to keep it separate as they will recycle that.
2. Carrier Bags/Totes. Very easy win, Tesco supermarkets and others recycle these. Keep some in the car to ensure that you don’t buy more and a couple in each bag.
3. Kitchen - Food only. Go through and get rid of anything that is out of date. Most peoples homes have a LOT of out of date things forgotten about it in the cupboard. As a rule if you have not used it in a year, you probably don’t need to buy it again.
4. CD’s/DVD’s. Due to streaming of both music and film these are almost a dead format. You won’t get a lot for trading them in (Musicmagpie.com) but it will make space. Charity shops will still take both.
5. Bathroom cabinet. Get rid of anything you won’t use (www.beautybank.co.uk will take new items and miniatures) It’s also a good time to take stock of what you have. I made a ‘shop’ for one Client who had a lot of items and she visits that before buying anything new. Take note of how many miniature hotel bottles you have unused and try not to take them next time.
