Declutter Like a Celebrity
Trust me Celebrities have the same clutter issues we all have (maybe even more so as they usually get plenty of freebies as well).
I have always been fascinated by auctions and famous people getting rid of lots of things at once so here are a few examples from over the years.
If you own the right thing with a provable celebrity link then you could be sat on a fortune…
ELTON JOHN
Nobody declutters like Elton, I have a Sotherbys auction catalogue for 1986 where he first decluttered a lot of his costumes, art and personal possessions.
Its a fascinating insight into his life, tastes and of course his things are quite incredible. Hes not one to scrimp!
He has continued to do this over the years, with the latest auction in February 2024 at Christies, which raised $8m. See the lots and the prices they got here:

JENNA LYONS
You may not be a housewives fan but Jenna Lyons recently had a brilliant New York Stoop Sale of her designer clothing which I believe will be featured on the next season of RHONY.
The amount of clothing on display and the events that they had been worn to was quite something, Met Ball outfits included.
This article here takes us behind the scenes:

JOAN DIDION
Of course a lot of sales are Estate Sales as was the case with Joan Didion.
This is one where prices went absolutely through the roof with her famous Celine sunglasses fetching $27,000!
I think that this article captures the sadness of looking through someones things once they are gone. I feel myself that you can really feel like you get to know someone through their stuff after working in these situations for work. Its humbling to help to sort out a persons estate and important for the family that it is done with dignity.

FREDDY MERCURY
An unusual auction as this was sold many years after his death by his friend who he had left his home to.
This sale raised £40m and allowed people to see the items on display beforehand.

DAVID BOWIE
Another estate sale auction, this one raising £33m and full of fascinating items was David Bowie. Great art, furniture and personal items
A Basquiat painting he bought in 1985 for £78,500 sold for £7.1m.
